Pratibha Patil (Marathi: प्रतिभा पाटील) (born December 19, 1934, age 81 years) is the President of India, the 12th from 2007 to 2012. He was a politician of Congress (I) India. She is the first woman and the first Maharashtrian who managed to occupy the position. He was assigned as President on July 25, 2007 by the Supreme Court of India K. G. Balakrishnan. He replaces Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. On July 25, 2012, Pranab Mukherjee menghantikan Patil as the President of India.
Patil is a member of the Indian National Congress (INC), which nominated United Progressive Alliance and Indian Left. He won the presidential election held on July 19, 2007 on rival Bhairon Singh Shekhawat by a margin of 300,000 votes.
As the supervising attorney, Patil is a constituent envoy Edlabad in Jalgaon District, Maharashtra Maharashtra Legislature of members of Parliament (1962-1985). He is also vice chairman of the Rajya Sabha (1986-1988), Member of Parliament from Amravati in the Lok Sabha (1991-1996) were all 24, and the Governor of Rajasthan (2004-2007) first lady. He served as governor of the state of Rajasthan to-16 (2004-2007) and served as deputy chairman of the Rajya Sabha (the Upper House of the Indian Parliament) and as a Member of the Legislative Council of Maharashtra from 1962 to 1985.
Pratibha Patil is the first woman governor of Rajasthan, and is also the only woman who served as governor in the state of India. He was a candidate for the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) and left India for the Indian presidential election held on Thursday, July 19, 2007 and later elected president.


Short biography.

Pratibha Patil was born into a family Narayan Rao in Jalgaon, Maharashtra. He earned his M.A. of M.J. College, Jalgaon, and a law degree from the Law School of Interior, Mumbai. At the time of his studies, he received the trophy for the table tennis championship between universities.
He is married with Ransingh Devisingh Shekhawat on July 7, 1965. The couple has one son and one daughter. Before entering politics, he worked as a social worker, and also practiced as a lawyer in Jalgaon.

Political career.

Pratibha Patil had been a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Council from 1962 to 1985. He was also a member of parliament in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. He became a member of Rajya Sabha on July 5, 1985 to 2 April 1990 and member of Lok Sabha to 10 in 1991-1996 ..
Patil has become the opposition leader in the Legislative Council Mahasrastra in 1979 when Sharad Pawar, as head Purogami Lok Dal, for the first time become the Chief Minister of Maharshtra.
Pratibha Patil also served as President of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (1988-1990), director of the National Federation of Urban Co-operative Banks & Credit Societies and members of the Board of Directors, National Cooperative Union of India. He is credited with establishing hostels for female workers in Mumbai and New Delhi.

As Governor of Rajasthan.

In 2004, Pratibha Patil became the second politician from Maharashtra who was appointed as Governor of Rajasthan; the first one is Vasantdada Patil. With Pratibha Patil as Governor, Rajasthan now has three women in important positions of power in the state, including Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and Chairman of the Board Sumitra Singh.
In 2006, Pratibha Patil returns the Rajasthan Religious Freedom Bill 2006 (originally berjuudul "Swatantrya Rajasthan Dharma Bill, 2006") approved by the Rajasthan Legislative Council in April 2006. The state government of Rajasthan to introduce draft legislation to control what he called "transitional unauthorized from one religion to another by persuasion or force. "However, a number of Christian organizations opposed the bill and accused him of bias due to favorable groups of Hindutva Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.  Pratibha Patil returns the bill, because he believed that certain clauses of the bill "violates basic rights, such as freedom of speech and expression, freedom of conscience and freedom to profess, practice and propagate religion."

On June 14, the United Progressive Alliance (UPA), the ruling political party alliances in India and left India chose him as their candidate for the presidential election to be held on July 19, 2007. This could make the first woman who served President of India. UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, described the election as "a historic event" ahead of the 60th independence day of India.

Towards Lawyer President of India.

Born in the small town of Jalgaon, Maharashtra on December 19, 1934, Paratibha Devisingh Patil is a woman who is very active since the age of 13 years, a period in which India had just gained its independence. He was educated in Jalgaon and Mumbai to achieve a postgraduate degree in law and then plunged into a legal practitioner as an advocate in Jalgaon.

His father is a police prosecutor in India that teaches high discipline in order to be child friendly in the family relationship. None of his family members with ties to politicians, before he engaged in social activities that lead to the Congress Party politicians communities. He began his career, he was elected to the state assembly maharastha in 1962 to 1985.

Since becoming members of the Congress, Pratibha career continues to climb. In 1985 he was elected as member of Rajya Sabha, the upper room of Parliament of India, and as Deputy Chairperson of the Rajya Sabha in 1986 for two consecutive years. In 1991 he was re-elected a member of parliament, but now in the Lok Sabha, the Indian Parliament lower room.

In the field of political struggle does not just stop in the Lok Sabha, on November 8, 2004, he became governor of Rajasthan. One of the policies is quite controversial and historic at this point is the refusal to Religious Freedom Bill which prohibits the transfer from one religion to another. He argues that it is a provision that affects, either directly or indirectly, the fundamental rights of citizens with regard to freedom of religion.

Prior to the last position, he often holds an important position and engage directly with a variety of activities in the social and cultural fields. Some of them, namely, establishing a Working Women Hostel in Bombay, Women's Co-Operative Bank at Jalgaon, Engineering College at Jalgaon, and schools, where all of them intended to obtain benefits for the youth in rural areas. Pratibha Patil has particular expertise in terms of regional economic development and improving the welfare of women. In July last, he took the oath as the President of India and recorded history as the first female President of the largest democracy in the world.
