Adam Malik Batubara (born in Pematangsiantar, North Sumatra, July 22, 1917 - died in Bandung, West Java, September 5, 1984 at the age of 67 years) is a former Minister of Indonesia in some departments, among others, he has served as Minister of Foreign Affairs. He was also the Vice President of Indonesia the third. Adam Malik established as one of the National Hero of Indonesia on November 6, 1998 by Presidential Decree No. 107 / TK / 1998.

Adam Malik is the son of Abdul Malik Batubara and Salamah Lubis. His father, Abdul Malik, was a wealthy merchant in Pematangsiantar. Adam Malik was the third of ten children. Adam Malik was educated basically in Hollandsch-Inlandsche School Pematangsiantar. He continued at the School of Religion Madrasah Parabek Thawalib Sumatra in Bukittinggi, but only one and a half years since then to return home and help parents to trade.
His desire to go forward and serve the people pushing Adam Malik to go migrated to Jakarta. At age 20, he along with Soemanang, Sipahutar, Armijn Pane, Abdul Hakim, and Pandu Kartawiguna pioneered the establishment of the national Antara news agency.

Career.

His career began as a journalist and leader of the nationalist movement that does autodidact. In his youth, he has been actively participating national movement fighting for the independence of Indonesia, including through the establishment of national Antara news agency who is based at that time in Buiten Tijgerstraat 38 Noord Batavia (Jl. Pinangsia II North Jakarta) then moved JI. North Pos 53 Pasar Baru, Central Jakarta. As Director appointed Mr. Soemanang, and Adam Malik served concurrently Deputy Editorial Director. In 1964, he assumed responsibility as Chairman of the Delegation of the Commission on Trade and Development at the United Nations. In 1966, the more glorious career when he served as the Deputy Prime Minister II (Second Deputy Prime Minister) and Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia in the cabinet Dwikora II.
The pure career as Foreign Minister in the cabinet Ampera first started in 1966. In 1967, he again assumed as Foreign Minister in the cabinet Ampera II. In 1968, Minister of Foreign Affairs in the cabinet of Development I, and in 1973 re-took office as Secretary of State for the last time in the Cabinet Development II. In 1971, he was elected as the Chairman of the UN General Assembly 26, Indonesia's first and only as Chairman of the UN General Assembly. As a diplomat, a journalist and even bureaucrats, Adam Malik used to say "all could be arranged". Having devoted himself to the nation and country, H.Adam Malik died in Bandung on 5 September 1984 due to liver cancer. His body was buried at Kalibata Heroes Cemetery. Later, his wife and his children perpetuate his name by setting up Adam Malik Museum. The government also provides various honors. For his services, Adam Malik was awarded various awards, among which are Mahaputera Star kl. IV in 1971, Prime kl.II Adhi Star in 1973, and was appointed as a National Hero in 1998.
